Welcome to Onward Counseling!

My name is Sheree Clinedinst and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor providing telehealth therapy from the comfort of your home, anywhere in the state of Virginia. I help adults and couples who are working through trauma from their past, trying to understand their neurodivergent brain, or exploring their LGBTQIA+ identity. My therapy practice is rooted in the belief that healing happens when people feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to dive into their past, and empowered enough to put themselves first

It’s time for a change…

If you are feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or unsure of where to begin, therapy can be a place to slow down and identify your own needs.

Many of the people I work with come to therapy after years of feeling misunderstood, dismissed, or forced to fit into expectations that never felt right. I provide affirming, trauma-informed therapy for individuals & couples navigating life changes, understanding neurodivergence, exploring new parts of their identity, and coping with past trauma.

My approach is grounded in the belief that you are not broken. Your symptoms and protective patterns often make sense in the context of what you have lived through.

I offer evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Internal Family Systems-informed work, somatic strategies, grounding strategies, and nervous system education to help you better understand and cope with impacts of trauma.

Is this trauma?

Is this my parents’ fault?

Is this just me?

Rarely do people come to therapy with just one thing to “fix”. We are complex humans made up of a lifetime of changes, hurt, mistakes, and lessons learned.

Whether you are seeking relief from trauma symptoms, learning how to work with your neurodivergent brain, exploring your LGBTQIA+ identity, or trying to rebuild a relationship, therapy can provide a dedicated space to focus on what matters most.

I take a holistic and decolonizing approach to exploring the complex ways that your personal experiences, ancestral history, relationships, family dynamics, nervous system, and your neurotype impact the symptoms showing up in your life today.

It is possible to quiet your brain and relax at the end of the day.

Together, we can explore what parts of you need care, train your nervous system to give you a break, and work towards goals to help you feel more aligned with yourself.

As an Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist with lived neurodivergent experience, I bring both clinical training and personal understanding to this work. In Couple’s Therapy, I love to help partners better understand how their unique neurodivergent patterns create communication barriers, and build new tools and language to break through those barriers.

If you’re ready to better understand yourself, your relationship, or your nervous system, I’d love to help you get there. Email me today to schedule a no-commitment, free consultation.
